San Diego Padres to wear Heart Patch on Jerseys in 2024 “For Peter” – SportsLogos.Net News

The San Diego Padres will be wearing a heart-shaped patch on the front of their uniforms during the 2024 season in memory of team chairman Peter Seider, who died this past November at the age of 63.

The patch features Seider’s initials PS in brown in the Padres’ typeface within a yellow heart. The patch is being worn on the upper left corner of the jersey, over each player’s heart.

“He was passionate about owning the Padres and bringing the fans of San Diego a team in which they could always take pride,” Major League Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred said at the time of his passing. “Peter made sure the Padres were part of community solutions in San Diego, particularly with the homeless community.”

San Diego had previously worn a memorial patch for an owner for Ray Kroc; the “RAK” patch was worn on the Padres’ jersey sleeve over the course of three seasons following his death in 1984. The Padres have honoured several former staff, coaches, and players with jersey patches over the years, including a home plate #19 patch for Tony Gwynn and a star with the initials “JC” for broadcaster Jerry Coleman in 2014, and a black circle with the number 48 on it for bullpen coach Darrel Akerfelds in 2012.
