After selling turquoise retail jerseys last fall as part of its Seminole Heritage Initiative, it appears the Florida State football program is on the verge of wearing turquoise jerseys on the field – perhaps as soon as this season.
The Nike Vapor F.U.S.E. jerseys were spotted on hangers inside the locker room at Doak Campbell Stadium during a recent event for boosters. They even featured an ACC patch on the right shoulder, matching the Seminoles’ garnet home and white road jerseys.
Florida State’s basketball team has worn turquoise uniforms at least twice every season since 2013-14 as part of Nike’s N7 program, which has brought awareness to various issues impacting Native American communities.
The color turquoise represents harmony, friendship and fellowship in the Native American culture, and the university has adopted it as an unofficial color as a way to honor its long-standing relationship with the Seminole Tribe of Florida.
Additionally, the goalkeeper for Florida State women’s soccer program began wearing a turquoise jersey last season and the football coaches wore turquoise gear for the Seminoles’ 38-20 Homecoming win over Duke last October.
It’s worth noting, though, that Florida State had a white helmet on display in the locker room for 12 years before it was officially added to the rotation in 2022, so this doesn’t guarantee the turquoise jerseys will be worn anytime soon.
But if they are, we’re guessing they’ll make their on-field debut during the Seminoles’ Homecoming matchup with Charleston Southern on Nov. 23, though it’s unclear what color helmets and pants they’ll be paired with.
