Although they won’t officially be unveiled until 7 p.m. ET tonight, the Detroit Lions’ new jerseys were leaked in a since-deleted promotional post on USA Today’s team site on Thursday morning.
The Honolulu blue home, white road and black alternate jerseys all feature perforated block numbers and sleeve stripes reminiscent of the vertical bars in the Lions’ 1961-69 logo, which was displayed on the sides of their blue alternate helmet last season.
The white road and black alternate jerseys feature small “Detroit” and “Lions” wordmarks, respectively, across the chest, while that detail is absent from the Honolulu blue home jerseys – presumably to give them an old-school feel.
All three are complete with a tagline inside the back collar, including “One Pride” on the Honolulu blue home jersey, “313” – Detroit’s area code – on the white road jersey and “Motor City” on the black alternate jersey.
The Lions confirmed the leaks as legitimate with their own post on Thursday, which showed defensive lineman Alim McNeill thanking the leaker. “We appreciate you ruining all of the hard work we put in,” he said.
As mentioned, the full reveal is expected to come this evening, though we’ve seen teams change those plans once their uniforms were leaked. Stay tuned for more on the Lions’ new threads.
