Another day, another slew of Major League Soccer clubs unveiling new kits for the 2024 season.
While it wasn’t the breakneck pace of Thursday — where we saw 12 clubs launch new kits — seven MLS teams had announced their intentions to release new jerseys on Friday.
As a reminder, MLS clubs typically release one new kit each year, alternating between primary and secondary kits. Each kit stays in the rotation for two years. In 2023, four teams had third kits — Toronto FC, Atlanta United, New York City FC and New York Red Bulls — and there are rumours of four to five teams getting third kits again this season.
Here’s the list of new 2024 kits unveiled on Friday, which we’ll update throughout the day:
FC CINCINNATI – Secondary
FC Cincinnati are encouraging their supporters to make their mark with their new secondary kit. The base of the kit is white, but accents like the sleeve cuffs, side panels, side/hem taping and collar insert have a unique orange and blue design. The back collar has a paintbrush leaving a streak of orange with the words “MAKE YOUR MARK” inside, “encouraging each wearer of the kit to be unique, creative and to tell their own story.”
COLORADO RAPIDS – Primary
The Colorado Rapids are raising the flag with their new primary kit. The burgundy shirt has a wavy checkerbooard pattern covering the front and sleeves, which represents the Rapids “putting a stake in the ground: raising their flag in support of access to soccer for young people.” Accents like the Adidas shoulder strips, sleeve cuffs, side panels and side/hem taping are sky blue.
COLUMBUS CREW SC – Primary
The Columbus Crew will defend their 2023 MLS Cup in new primary kits. The shirt is predominantly yellow, with a grainy, jagged black band across the chest “inspired by the bold, angular architecture of the Black & Gold’s Fortress Lower.com Field and the buildings in the neighborhood that surround their Home – Astor Park.” Accents like the side panels, Adidas shoulder stripes and trim around the collar and sleeve cuffs are solid black. The MLS patch on the left sleeve is silver to commemorate the Crew’s 2023 championship, and a third star has been added above the club crest on both this kit and their secondary kit.
LA GALAXY – Primary
After fans asked for it, the sash is back on the LA Galaxy’s primary kit — kind of. The front of the white kit features grey diagonal stripes that break for long enough to form a sash containing the club crest. The yellow Adidas shoulder stripes have a navy blue outline, and the yellow side/hem taping has a navy blue stripe through the middle.
MINNESOTA UNITED – Primary
After releasing a Northern Lights-themed secondary kit last year, Minnesota United turns back to the night sky for inspiration for their new primary kit. “The kit presents a fresh take on a black look, deepening the club’s connection with their primary color and reflecting the breathtaking, boundless glory of the North Star State,” according to MLSSoccer.com.
ST. LOUIS CITY SC – Secondary
With the tonal wave pattern across the front and sleeves of the white base, St. Louis CITY SC’s new secondary kit not only celebrates the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers, but also “the unstoppable energy that flows through the city and the supporters who come together at CITYPARK.” Accents on the jersey, including sponsor logos and the club crest, are CITY’s signature shade of red.
VANCOUVER WHITECAPS – Secondary
The Vancouver Whitecaps are going gold to celebrate their 50th anniversary season. Their new secondary kit features gold accents and logos on a navy blue base. The side panels are white, and an insert at the front of the collar is white with gold trim. The side/hem taping, normally one color on most Adidas MLS jerseys so far this season, is split vertically between gold and white. The left chest bears a golden soccer ball with a maple leaf in the middle, lifted from the original crest the Whitecaps wore from 1974 to 1978 in the North American Soccer League.
