The Pittsburgh Riverhounds of the USL Championship are building bridges with their community with their 2024 home and away kits — the first kits under the team’s new deal with supplier Charly.
The Riverhounds released the jerseys on Wednesday, February 21, and they’ll make their on-field debut on March 9 against New Mexico United.
The “Three Rivers” home jersey features a large yellow bridge graphic running diagonally from the bottom right to the upper left on a black base. “This bridge is reminiscent of the many bridges located throughout the City of Pittsburgh, crossing the Allegheny, Monongahela and Ohio Rivers and connecting the city’s diverse neighborhoods,” the club said in a press release.
The Pittsburgh skyline also features on the front of the home kit, specifically the view from the Riverhounds’ home ground at Highmark Stadium.
Meanwhile, the “Steel” away kit has a yellow base and a steel plate pattern across the jersey that “reflects the city’s rich history as an industrial hub.” A broad grey stripe, flanked by two narrower stripes, runs across the chest; this striping pattern is repeated on the sleeves. The V-neck collar is grey, and grey stripes run down the sides of the shirt.
Charly is a Mexico City-based sportswear company that has been producing kits for Liga MX teams for years, but recently has started making inroads in the U.S. soccer market.
“We are excited to see our partnership with CHARLY take off and for fans to get their first look at our 2024 kits,” said. “By working with CHARLY, we have been able to customize and create uniforms that we feel are unique to our team, and that also represent the identity of our club while capturing the look of the City of Pittsburgh.”
