If you are a regular consumer of magic mushrooms, you are probably interested in alternatives when consuming them to avoid their taste and texture, which are not very appealing, to be honest. In this blog, we have already given you several alternatives to avoid the unpleasant experience, although today we want to present you with another way of doing it that will also enhance the effects of the mushrooms you have consumed.
Mixing chocolate and psilocybin, besides being a great idea for those with a sweet tooth, is one of the ways that the native peoples of South America already used in their ceremonies since ancient times, and that today is once again gaining relevance in the entheogenic world. But let’s start at the beginning…will you join us?
What is the origin of mixing chocolate and magic mushrooms?
Everything can be understood if one gets to the bottom of the matter, to the origins of the practice being carried out, and this topic is no exception. To understand the relationship between cacao and psilocybin, the first step is to see what its primary consumers said:
The scientific name of the cacao tree, “Theobroma Cacao” is based on the Greek words “Theo” (God) and “broma” (food), meaning food of the Gods. It may be a wonderful coincidence that it fits fantastically with the name of Psilocybe Mexicana in the Nahuatl language: “teonanacatl”, which means “flesh of God”; in fact, both are sacred plants since humans discovered them and despite their current use, they have been treated with respect and for specific purposes.
There is ample evidence that the two substances were used together in ceremonies to connect with nature and oneself: vessels dating back over 4,000 years have been found containing traces of cacao. These vessels were often decorated with depictions of the same rituals where both cacao and magic mushrooms were used.
Benefits of mixing chocolate and psilocybin
As is often the case when the modern world collides with the old, modern science validates ancient theories. There is clear, now scientific, evidence of the brilliant connection between the consumption of cacao and the consumption of Psilocybin. Cacao has a large number of benefits, both alone and accompanied by mushrooms:
- Contains mild levels of MAO (monoamine oxidase) inhibitors, molecules that affect monoamine oxidase, an enzyme involved in the removal of norepinephrine, serotonin, and dopamine.
- It contains serotonin and its precursors, magnesium, and tryptophan. Serotonin, also known as “the substance of well-being”, is the molecule that plays the most role in the fight against stress, improving mood and feelings of satisfaction, relaxation, and well-being.
- The endocannabinoid Anandamide is also found naturally in cocoa, which is essential for memory, motivation, cognitive processes, and movement control.
What is anandamide?
Today we are going to talk to you about the close relationship that exists between an endocannabinoid produced by your body, anandamide, and phytocannabinoids produced by plants such as cannabis. What functions do each of them perform? What relationship do they have? We answer these questions and many more in this article.
We could find many other benefits of cocoa on its own (cocoa, not the chocolate that is usually sold, where there is more sugar and milk than cocoa, which is usually alkalized), but it would turn into a post where only cocoa would be discussed, and we want to talk about the interaction between cocoa and psilocybin. The key points of this interaction are the following:
- The vasodilatory actions of cocoa help relax blood vessels, allowing blood to circulate easily and promoting the flow of chemical compounds from the mushrooms to the nervous system and organs.
- The natural fat in cocoa acts as an ideal carrier mechanism for the fat-soluble compounds in mushrooms, helping tissues absorb nutrients in the most effective way.
- The powerful flavor of cocoa inhibits the taste of mushrooms, which for many can be annoying and powerful.
- Finally, making psilocybin chocolate is the most recommended method to keep the psilocybin in good condition and prevent it from degrading. You will be able to store the tablet in the refrigerator for much longer than normal.
Psychedelic chocolate recipe: The best method for preserving psilocybin
The recipe we propose will be to make a 100-gram chocolate bar, where we will put 10 grams of magic mushrooms; in this case, we will use Casacadian Teacher from Mycobag. Let’s see what you will need to prepare it:
Ingredients
- Magic mushrooms (in our case, 10g of Cascadian Teacher)
- 100g chocolate (85% cocoa chocolate has been used; the more intense it is, the less noticeable the mushroom flavor will be)
- A chocolate bar mold
- A large pot and a small one (for the bain-marie)
- A shredder
Preparation
- Grind the mushrooms as finely as possible using a food processor. If they are not ground sufficiently, they will remain at the bottom when mixed with the chocolate. You can freeze them beforehand to achieve a finer and more efficient grinding.
- Break the chocolate into small pieces and heat it in a bain-marie.
- Fill the large pot with water and place the small pot with the chocolate in it, to create a bain-marie until it melts.
- Stir the chocolate as it melts so that it doesn’t stick to the pan and burn.
- Once the chocolate has melted, transfer it to a bowl and wait for it to cool to 40 or 50ºC. Psilocybin degrades above 70ºC, so try not to reach this temperature.
- Once the chocolate is at the right temperature, add the mushrooms and stir.
- Quickly pour it into the mold and put it in the fridge to cool, so that it solidifies.
PS. Once it’s cold, remember to label it, just in case someone gets confused… 😉
And happy journey!!
Dosing Psilocybin Chocolate
If, like us, you do the ratio of 10 grams of mushrooms to 100 grams of chocolate, you can come to the conclusion that every 10 grams of chocolate contains 1 gram of psilocybin. The ratio can also be done with ounces.
Our bar had 24 ounces of chocolate, so we’ll do the division: 10 grams / 24 ounces. This would be 0.4 grams of mushrooms for every ounce of chocolate.
